Just today I found the time to read the last article on Adobe Mobile and Devices Developer Center that Scott pointed out some days ago.
It's an interesting article because it shows the Flash Lite development from an experienced J2ME developer.
The author, Eddie McGreal (has more than 15 years' experience working on leading-edge technologies, and a strong background in Java/J2EE, RDBMS, and J2ME), chose the Stocks application from the example Demos project that comes with the J2ME Wireless Toolkit 2.2 from the Sun Developer Network and set to work on creating a Flash Lite–equivalent application.
When you'll read the part titled Similarities with Java, you'll discover that "ActionScript shares many similarities with Java. You'll quickly feel at home with it".
The author ends the article with these words:
"I think Adobe has done a great job with Flash Lite 2.0. It is now technically as good as, or even better than, J2ME. The visual authoring tool is a big help because it speeds up the development time and enables non-technical people (such as graphic designers) to contribute to a project. The other major advantage in Flash is that you can draw images dynamically, which could be used to show a portrait of a stock over a day. This is impossible in J2ME because you have to pull the image from the server.
Flash offers a developer a very powerful, yet easy-to-use tool to create mobile applications. Once you start using it, you won't want to stop!"
