MIDAS stands for Mobile Integrated Dynamic Application System and it's a system developed by Openwave.
It seams to be an interesting enviroment that uses web standards (xhtml, css, ecmascript) to develop new data services and interfaces quickly, "over the air."
In practise, Openwave MIDAS (Mobile Integrated Dynamic Application System) is a scripted application environment that lets operators manage the device UIs of their subscribers, including pushing new applications to the phones out there.
Reading from the Openwave site :
MIDAS is a scripted application environment that gives mobile operators the power to create and deploy customized data services and compelling user interfaces integrated into the handsets. MIDAS removes much of the development risk for mobile operators without sacrificing control of their service vision.
MIDAS is built on top of Openwave Phone Suite Version 7 (V7) handset software and uses familiar World Wide Web standards like XHTML, CSS and ECMAScript. It is a flexible application framework that allows operators to create, customize and deploy new data services and interfaces quickly, "over the air."
The mobile data services created in the MIDAS environment can be micro-customized to specific subscriber segments. The result is an integrated and personal user experience that accelerates usage and ultimately ARPU.
If I understand well this system could represent a competitor for Flash Lite 2 and Flash Cast, allowing developers to create contents in a standard way without the needing of a 3rd part player ! MIDAS applications totally integrate with the device functions
